History
In 2002, APIQ (Asian Pacific Islander Queers) was established by a team of committed students. These students saw the need for a support group for their Asian brothers and sisters to find others who can understand and relate to the special complexity of their experience as an Asian or Asian-American queer. Meetings of a dozen or so were held every other week to discuss family life, social life, and other pertaining issues that are unique to APIQ. Since then, the organization has grown to about 70 members, with an even larger network of alumni.
APIQ has, in its very recent and young past, endorsed outreach activities, such as APIQ Awareness Week, APIQ Idol, and collaborated with other groups to present Queer Prom.
